A Two-in-One Package: The Durango Train Zip Line Adventure!
One of southern Colorado’s greatest treasures is the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Built in 1881, the steam locomotive train now carries tourists deep into the rugged San Juan Mountains for a historic and breathtaking view. Originally used to transport silver ore, this mining relic traverses through some of Colorado’s best-preserved lands. Guests enjoy views of the Animas River Canyon and Chicago Basin along the four hour ride from Durango to Silverton. The track winds through pristine meadows, cavernous gorges, and expansive valleys, offering a day of relaxation filled with jaw-dropping vistas. With a variety of open air and first-class cars, this train ride includes many options to make the experience ideal. The best part? The railroad offers several adventure packages for families like the Durango train zip line excursion at Soaring Tree Top Adventures.
Soaring Tree Top Adventures is the world’s longest zip line course located deep in the San Juan National Forest. Its isolation means that the only access is by rail on board the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Every morning, guests board the train in Durango and journey two hours into the mountains to the zip line property. Upon arrival, guests embark upon a 5 ½ hour zip line course of 27 spans while the train continues on to Silverton. Through the tree tops, Soarers of all ages experience the thrill of high cables and an ecology tour of the forest. A four-course gourmet lunch is served by the experienced chefs amid the treetops on a riverside picnic platform. After lunch, the course continues by crisscrossing over the sparkling Animas River, ending with the 1400-foot finale span. With full bellies and the entire course behind them, Soarers once again board the Durango train on its journey home from Silverton. The day ends in Durango just in time to make dinner reservations on historic Main Street. The Durango train zip line package has both relaxation and adventure to please the entire family on your next Colorado vacation!
