What About the Trees?
The entire Soaring® Tree Top Adventures
zip line course is built without any hooks, bolts, screws, or anything else piercing the trees. There is nothing that even penetrates the bark of these old growth Ponderosa pines. It is a unique patent that allows the platforms to be suspended in the trees without any harm to the trees at all. Sap flow and growth will never be impeded by Soaring’s system. According to well-known Arborist David Temple, upon inspection of the Soaring® course and of our system in the trees, he states: “these old girls won’t even know you’re here.”
You day-long canopy tour adventure also includes an ecology tour, so that you can learn all about the plants and animals of the San Juan National Forest. Call 970-769-2357 or visit soaringcolorado.com to make reservations! The 2011 season runs from May 13th to October 16th.

That's pretty neat...
Using the Best Zip Line Equipment
Soaring Tree Top Adventures uses only the very best equipment, serving both the purposes of safety and comfort. You'll find our Sky Rangers constantly checking all of the harnesses, carabiners, ropes, trees, cables, platforms, steps, and more throughout the entire duration of your visit. Our zip line course is inspected each and every day prior to the guests' arrival; no detail goes unchecked. These precautions continue to support our impeccable safety record and, I believe, make Soaring a safer activity than walking!
We exclusively use top-of-the-line Petzl gear to ensure that our guests have the best canopy tour experience possible. Often used in aerial work environment (for their strength and comfort), the Petzl Navaho harness is the equipment of choice at Soaring. Take a look at this video for some more information:
Zip Lining Featured on Lonely Planet
Take a look at this article from Lonely Planet, The Top 10 Things to Throw Yourself Off. So...all of you thrill seekers, this is for you. Here is what they have to say about Soaring Canopy Tours:
"If you’re harbouring Tarzan dreams, take your very own Jane to the jungle-green forests of Durango, Colorado. Zip lining is, quite simply, a glorified flying fox; in Durango, this is an adventure that will send you high into the treetops. Durango has a population of around 15,000, and is nestled in the Animas River Valley, surrounded by the San Juan Mountains. As you zip from tree to tree, be careful not to land in the homes of the incredible bird- and reptile-life, which keep the jungle alive."
There are some really cool thrills mentioned in the article! If you're looking for the perfect balance of excitement and family-friendly adventure, come visit us in Durango for a full day of fun. For booking information, visit our website or call (970) 769-2357.
The Longest Canopy Tour is Growing…

The largest canopy tour course in the world in getting even bigger! Soaring Tree Top Adventures is adding three new spans, making our zip line count to 27 in total. The second half of our course will feature two of these spans, each over 600 feet long and running parallel with one another so that you can race your friends and family through the old-growth forest!
There are a lot of excited things in store for the 2011 season, so we hope to see you this year! Opening day is May 13th; reservations can be made online or by calling (970) 769-2357. If you have any questions don't hesitate to give us a call or send an email to info@soaringcolorado.com.
Winter Train Trips in Durango
There are only 129 days until the opening day of the 2011 Soaring Canopy Tours season...there are also some new things in store! Until then, however, there are still plenty of great things to do in Durango. One of the most interesting things that you can do is ride the Cascade Canyon Winter Train. Enjoy the winter wonderland around you, all from the comfort of a heated coach. As a nice complement to the day, box lunches are also available for pre-purchase. Visit the DSNGRR website for more information. Here is an awesome video that they've put together to showcase the views from this amazing trip:
Dining in Durango
Southwest Colorado, in addition to its incredible hiking, biking, and skiing, is home to a slew of other great activities and things to see. One of the finest aspects of Durango (especially after a full day of Soaring) is the food. Taking a stroll downtown, you'll find restaurant after restaurant emitting wonderful smells and pulling you into an inviting atmosphere. One little-known fact is that Durango has more local restaurants per capita than San Francisco! (Get Real Durango)
From authentic Mexican food to fresh roasted coffee and locally crafted beer, every base is covered when it comes to cuisine in Durango. Foodies can delight in the wide variety and high quality of all things food when visiting this historic town. Chain restaurants aren't the heart and soul of the dining scene; it's local restaurants the make the food here special. I'm even hesitant to provide specific names of restaurants because it's all so good! You can, however, find some dining guides from a number of places: Get Real Durango (link above), TripAdvisor, or just by asking around...it's one of the best ways!
One of the the top things on my "favorite things to do in Durango" list is eat! So, after a long ride on the trail or after taking a full-day canopy tour, make sure to visit one of Durango's many great restaurants.
The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
A ride on t
he famous Durango Train is sure to be both one of the most exhilarating and one the most peaceful trips that you will ever experience. Taking in the views of the famous "High Line" will keep you on the edge of your seat, but the combination of the cool breeze coming off of the mighty Animas River and the fresh mountain air will help you relax in the comfort of your seat. Steep cliff faces, canyons, and majestic mountain ridges all make for an unforgettable experience. You may even recognize the scenery from one of the movies that have been filmed in the area!
The historic Durango Train is perfect for the whole family, young and old. The DSNGRR also provides the only transportation to and from our property. That's right; you'll be venturing deep into the San Juan Mountain range to get a true, untouched perspective on the beauty of Southwest Colorado.
When traveling to Soaring, get ready for a luxurious ride in one of our first-class private train cars (tickets are included in your Canopy Tour Package). Overstuffed leather seats, plush pillows, and rich wood characterize the Tall Timber Legend and Legacy, making for one of the most comfortable rides available. Our guests receive a top-notch experience from the time they set foot aboard the train until they arrive back in Downtown Durango after a full day of zipping through the Ponderosa Pines and Aspen groves.
